When I wrote up my 30 Before 30 list, waaaay back in December 2011, one of the top items/first items I though of was getting another tattoo. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to get, at the time, but I knew the urge was there. (It's rarely far from the surface of my mind, to be honest. I love having tattoos.)
I eventually decided to extend my half-sleeve to a three-quarter sleeve, and add a few more nerdy/space references, plus a Vincent van Gogh quote I've been wanting to get tattooed on myself for more years than I can remember.
Three sessions later:
I am so in love. My tattoo artist—Megan at Bijou Studio—is brilliant, and she did an amazing job of tying the two parts together. If you didn't know that I got it done in two parts, I think it's near impossible to tell where one ended and the other began. The colors in the photos don't quite do it justice; they're bright and saturated and oh so pretty. (One benefit of being super pale and not really going out in the sun, I suppose, is that the colors tend to stay bright!)
You can click on the image to make it bigger, but to clarify, I now have seven references to some of my favorite pop culture movies/TV shows/video games on my arm:
- The TARDIS from Doctor Who.
- The Milennium Falcon from Star Wars.
- The Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- The Stargate from Stargate SG1.
- The Normandy from Mass Effect.
- Serenity from Firefly.
- Moya from Farscape.
I also have the moon, planets, stars and some nebula-looking business. The quote reads "I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream." Pretty appropriate for the theme, don't you think?
Now, on to to the next idea. Getting a new addition to my tattoo collection every two years or so is a pretty good schedule to keep, right?
