I'm a big fan of creative people who and projects that turn the idea of "the norm" on its head. For example, Jessica Saia and her Guys With Fancy Lady Hair photo essay for the San Fransisco website The Bold Italic.
Jessica bemoans the fact that "so many men spend years getting their manes all long and for what? To be occasionally bundled into a low ponytail? I'm not sure how ladies got to hoard all of hair's styling potential when men can grow hair out of their faces." In order to rectify the unfairness, she took eight guys with long hair to a local salon and asked stylists to give them the works. The following are my favorite outcomes:
Definitely check out the rest of the 'dos, too. Which is your fave?
And this week, from the Mister:
There are very few things Colt likes more than a powerful feat of athleticism. Recently, cyclist Tony "Der Panzerwagen" Martin, in Stage 6 of the Vuelta a España, broke away from the peleton (the main group of riders) at the very start of the 175-meter long stage and stayed away for the entire day ... right up until the last 15 meters:
Although him losing the stage is heartbreaking for both fans and Martin alike, the fact that he made it so close, all by himself, was incredible, Colt says. Particularly when you take into account that breakaways of multiple riders on flat stages (like this one) rarely, if ever, succeed.
And from TGG:
Yesterday was Wes and his wife Emily's sixth wedding anniversary. As a gift to Wes, Emily created a blog "mixtape" complete with songs, photos and stories from their time together. It's utterly sweet and very much a celebration of these two awesome people and their relationship. As Wes says, "So anyone who wants to be sickened by this display of affection can read a musical history of us here." Check out the blog: Like a Storybook Story. And here's the playlist.
I couldn't resist stealing this photo to include with this post.
