Renter's Delight: Accent pillows


It's been a while since I posted a Renter's Delight, but the Murtis is getting a couple of upgrades/additions soon, so it's timely.

We finally (finally!) ordered some patio furniture. I'd been eyeing this set since I first saw it at Target earlier this spring, but totally wasn't willing to pay $500 for it. When the set went on clearance, I jumped at the chance—and hopefully it'll be on our patio within the next few days. *grumble*shipping company issues*grumble*


I also recently persuaded the office manager at my day job into selling me a set of old chairs that are in our office. Our longtime executive director recently retired, and the chairs he'd had in his office for a very long time (decades?) weren't the style of the new executive director, so they got ousted. The chairs are a little grungy, but they're the perfect library chairs.


Naturally, new chairs necessitate adornment, particularly in the form of throw pillows. The accent wall color in the library is dark green, and the current furniture in there is white and brown, with accent pieces in yellow, silver/grey, and red, so any new pillows would need to mesh with that scheme. The patio has no scheme, so we have more options with any pillows going out there, so long as the colors go with the brown and yellow of the patio set. After considering these restrictions, I took myself on a little browser shopping trip to see what could be found.

(7, 8, 9, 10, 11)

Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and the grey version of 11 would probably work better on the patio. No. 4 even glows in the dark!

Nos. 5, 7, 10 and the yellow version of 11 would work best in the library. I actually bought No. 7 for Colt a few years ago ... but then ruined it by putting it in the wash. For future reference: Felt doesn't hold up that well when run through a washing machine cycle.

Nos. 6 and 8 would work in either place.

And No. 9, well, is a Bobby Singer Pillow Friend. He could go anywhere.

Of course, I could also just go to the fabric store, find a fun fabric, and sew up a square in which I then stuff a pillow insert ... but where's the fun in that?

  4. ricky and i talked about that exact same patio set! we're thinking we'll spray paint it black or gray though... to tie in to the theme for the rest of the downstairs. great minds think alike.

  7. Most of these are from Etsy, haha. :) And those are cute! I love the chevron pattern. I bet it wouldn't be hard to find similar fabric and whip a few covers up.
