obsessed.: Choose Your Own Adventure, Forever Young Adult-style

The genius ladies over at Forever Young Adult (FYA)—one of my new favorite Internet haunts—have come up with the most awesome blog series I've run across in, well, ever. I am both head-over-heels obsessed. with this idea and annoyed that I didn't come up with it myself. (I mean, really. It's brilliant.)

You'll be familiar with the idea behind the series if you've ever read a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) book. If you haven't, the basic gist is that you read a chapter, and at the end, you're given a series of options as to where your story goes next. The story hops around the book until you reach your conclusion. As the image above tells, there are often more than 20 different endings—some of them not so nice. (Dun-dun-DUN!)

FYA has mashed together the typical adventure stories of CYOA books and the often ridiculous plots of a Young Adult novel. And, unsurprisingly, the two go together like peanut butter (crunchy, natch) and bananas.

In FYA's words:
OK y'all—it's time to break out your Atari or original NES and get ready to GO BACK IN TIME cos it's time for CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE—FYA STYLE (WHAT WHAT)! In a small twist on the original format, you get to VOTE on the adventure path we'll take, and each of FYA's amazing writers will be penning a portion of the story (and I promise it won't be as nerdy as my favorite CYOA format, TIME MACHINE—you know, the ones where you're young Ben Franklin). Who knows where it will lead? That's right—we don't even know whether you'll get a date to the prom, or end up drained by a vampire!
The latest story revolves around a high school drama club, a hot new stranger and a—GASP—missing best friend. You can start with the first chapter of the latest adventure—Magical Mystery Tourhere. We're only four chapters in, so there's plenty of time for you to join in the fun.
