TGG messaged me the other day and asked if I'd like an invite to play a free, online game that he described as: "It's an MMO, but there's not really any combat. It's more about the shared experience of creation than competition. It reminds me of LittleBigPlanet a bit."
I'm a fan of good-looking, amusing games, and I've lately been missing having a game to play during my idle hours (like WoW), so I accepted the invite and jumped into the world of Glitch.
I've played every day since then. Definitely obsessed.
The game's official website describes it as "a web-based massively-multiplayer game which takes place inside the minds of eleven peculiarly imaginative Giants. You choose how to grow and shape the world: building and developing, learning new skills, collaborating or competing with everyone else in one enormous, ever-changing, persistent world." The game's adorable—and the silly wit and intelligence of the writers/developers behind the scenes is very apparent.
For example, when I completed learning the skill Gasmogrification, I got an alert that read: "Ah, knowledge. They say that knowledge is power, and now that you know Gasmogrification, you are therefore more powerful. Not as powerful as, say, the onthophagus taurus species of dung beetle, which can pull 1,141 times its body weight—but still, pretty powerful. Go, little horned dungbeetle wannabe!"
Funny, right? Or at least a little more amusing than your basic achievement acknowledgement, for sure.
Here's a trailer:
And here's what my character looks like:
I currently have three invites to the beta up for grabs. If you've read through the post and are interested, leave a comment and your email address and I'll send you one!
