Haiku Revieu: Prometheus

Prometheus (*** 1/2)

Giant aliens
Sketchy android with milk blood
Where did we come from?

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD! I went into this movie without too many preconceptions—I've seen Alien and Aliens (and Alien vs. Predator, natch), but am not a huge fan of the series, nor am I all that knowledgeable about the Alien universe. (It actually wasn't until recently that I'd seen all of the first two movies.)

My immediate reaction after the movie ended is that I liked it. It was more of a thinking movie than a sci-fi horror movie (like the rest of the Alien movies). There was a bit of gore, a few aliens and a bastardy android. The more I talk about it with Colt and my friends who've seen it, however, the more questions I have. I'm left with a lot of open-ended "hmmmms." I do now understand how it was a prequel, but not a prequel, though. It seemed like a prequel up until the very end, but then it split off from the known canon, or at least, it seemed like it. And it definitely left the door open for sequels.

I'd like to see it again, to perhaps glean more from the movie. But that can wait until it's out on DVD.

  1. I was less than pleased (mostly because of how un-scary it was), but our round-table about it helped me to like it a little more than I did immediately after seeing it.

    1. Just one of the many reasons I like our group of friends so much—we can have meaningful conversations about uber nerdy things.

  2. I liked it but I definitely want to see it again! I've been reading a lot of the reaction and I feel like I've missed things:( Also not as scary as I was expecting but when you're me that's not necessarily a bad thing...

    1. I didn't mind the non-horror of it either! :)

  3. Haven't seen it yet, but I really want to despite the massive thumbs down I've seen from a lot of people. I know nothing of the Alien universe, so maybe I would enjoy it more? :)

    1. Not sure, Jen. Perhaps? I'd be curious to see what you thought, though, coming from that angle. :)
