Weekend festvities

How was your weekend? I've had a fun—but busy—few days.

On Friday evening, Colt and I drove down to a racetrack in a town about 30 minutes south of Austin to attend the Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow presentation of Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. (For you long-time friends of C&CC, when we went to Marfa, TX last year with the Hamptons, we went in part for the Rolling Roadshow presentations of No Country for Old Men and Giant.)

The Rolling Roadshow is this awesome movie series that takes place at various locations around the state. Alamo sets up a big mobile screen and there's occasionally other events that tie in with the movie. Friday night, we were treated to a "flaming deathrace" and rock show prior to the movie starting. The mini demolition derby was awesome, the band's set ... not so much. (We're pretty sure they were a bunch of Alamo employees that got together for one night. At least, we hope.)

Here are a couple of shots from the event, along with a short video of the race.

There were a surprising amount of Mad Max cosplayers at the event.

I worked all day Saturday, but on Sunday, Colt and I went to a Harry Potter-themed birthday party for our friend Samar. We were all asked to wear our house colors, so I'd been planning on sporting my Ravenclaw Quidditch T-shirt. Just so happens, both Ben (Samar's husband) and Wes have the same shirt. Ben came up with the idea of making brooms for us to have at the party, and I took it one step further (as I tend to do): team pictures. Wes wasn't able to make it to the party, so the pictures were also a way for him to be there in spirit.

My broom's name is Wendy, natch. Here are a couple of glamour shots.

Did you do anything fun or exciting over the weekend? Do share!

  1. You look so somber and hardcore in the team pictures, which would make Ravenclaw proud!
