Geek of the Week: Meet Timothy

What's your name?

Where are you from?
Rotterdam, The Netherlands

What does it mean to you to be a geek/nerd?
You could be into anything. Whether it be graphic novels, sci-fi films, dancing, movie scores or even something like Lego. The thing is that you have passion for it. Embrace it, be proud of the things you love and never be ashamed of it.

What are 2–5 things you're particularly passionate about?
Film (making), writing, illustrating, 3D modeling/animation and yes, Star Wars.

Why are you passionate about these things?
I think you can see a pattern here, haha. It all started when I saw The Empire Strikes Back as a young boy. It was 1983 and my brother had rented a VCR player, Zombie Flesh Eaters, a Kung Fu film and The Empire Strikes Back. The movie itself was a revelation. The images, the story, the characters and the music. I was in love with it all, and there and then, I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. After years of struggling, it's finally happening. I have finished my first music video and another one coming up soon. Hopefully, I'll move on to short movies. The jackpot is of course a feature.
(Ed. note: How exciting! Congrats.)

Do you have any special or hidden talents?
I'm pretty good at doing voices. I do a mean Al Pacino (or so people tell me).

What was your favorite book/movie/TV show/other from 2011?
Robopocalypse. Spielberg is going to direct the movie version! YES!

What book/movie/TV show/other are you most looking forward to in 2012?
The Dark Knight Rises! I'm a huge HUGE Batman fan!

Do you have a "go-to" karaoke/Rock Band song? What is it?
"Heroes" by David Bowie. Bowie is awesome.

What are three websites you like to visit every day?

Do you have a blog/website/Twitter name/etc. that you'd like to share?
My blog: Just Johnny ...

Any additional comments or thoughts?
It's the cliché of all clichés. It's also very, very true—If you want something. Go after it and never ever give up.

Timothy's bonus questions:

If you had the opportunity to remake a film, would you? Is there a specific film you'd like to remake?
If I had the opportunity, I would remake Enemy Mine. I'd take elements I like from the 1985 movie and parts from the novel they had to cut out. I've never read the original novel though. I've only read about it.

It's about an intergalactic war between humans and a lizard-like race called the drac. After a heated battle in space, a human and drac crash on a nearby, uninhabited planet. To survive the harsh elements, the two have to work together. Eventually they work out their differences, learn each others' language, customs and even religion. At one point the drac gives birth to a baby and dies. Now, the human has to take care of the baby drac. A lot happens after that and eventually leads to peace. Seeing the state the world is in now, I think this is a story worth retelling. I would make a mini series out of it though.
(Ed. note: This sounds awesome! I've now got to go find both the book and the movie.)

How do you feel about the rumor that Christopher Nolan will kill Batman in The Dark Knight Rises?
I have heard about that. I must admit, I am not a big fan of Bruce Wayne/Batman dying. We'll have to see though. I thought the casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker was a bad idea too ... look how that turned out. :)

Thanks, Timothy, for being a Geek of the Week!
