Geek of the Week: Meet Tara

What's your name?
Tara

Where are you from?
Toronto, Canada

What does it mean to you to be a geek/nerd?
Liking cool stuff! There's loads of different flavours of geeks and nerds but I think you just have to really like some sort of obscure book/movie/show/comic/etc. Sometimes I like to throw out obscure references to things and see who gets the joke. It's like a cool test. If you snicker at my "Hello my name is Yolanda/Bridget/Saffron" shirt, then chances are you're cool.
Ed. note: I need one of these shirts!

What are 2–5 things you're particularly passionate about?
I love reading and being crafty. I fell into sewing but I really, really enjoy it. If a few days pass and I haven't made anything, I feel a bit off. I'm always trying new crafty things, even if I apparently stink at it, like crochet. We love to travel as well. In the past few years I've been to about a dozen countries and I hope to add more to the list in the next few years.

Why are you passionate about these things?
I love learning about things and reading, creating and traveling lets you learn all sorts of things about the world and yourself. It's a bit addicting.

Do you have any special or hidden talents?
My super power is being able to pick up any sort of craft and giving it a try. I might not stick with it, but I'll give it a try!

What was your favorite book/movie/TV show/other from 2011?
All the good shows get cancelled :( I really enjoyed the book Room—plus it was the first book I read on my iPad!

What book/movie/TV show/other are you most looking forward to in 2012?
More Walking Dead!

What are three websites you like to visit every day?
I try to get through my reader each day, but it's hard. Mostly I pop by crafty sites but I do love CrappyPictures.com.

Do you have a blog/website/Twitter name/etc. that you'd like to share?

Any additional comments or thoughts?
Thanks for having me here! Can't wait to discover some new fun people and blogs.

Tara's bonus questions:

What has been your favorite country to visit so far? Where is the top priority for you to visit next?
I really loved visiting England. We did a lot of train-ing and driving around to see cool sights of the area we were in.

It's also so great to be close to so many countries. We hopped in a plane for a flight to France, then took a train to Germany. We passed a sign for Switzerland while we were in our rental car but with a 20 month old and pregnant me we weren't up for the few hours in the car.

We just got back from Belize and loved it we/re already working on going back! Our opinion may be biased since we left Canada in December for a sunny tropical paradise but it was lovely.
Ed. note: I'm so jealous of all this travel!

Which craft is next on your list to try?
I'm dying to start printing my own fabric. I've carved stamps a few times and I do screen printing for my cup cozies so I just have to figure out some small points and I can get started on fabrics. Oh and I need some time!

Thanks, Tara, for being a Geek of the Week!
