Holiday quasi-hiatus

Starting this afternoon, I'll be off work for the next two weeks. (Them's the benefits of working in education!) What this means for me is that I have two glorious weeks to finish up projects, start new ones, recharge my batteries, make plans for the new year, etc. What this means for C&CC, dear friends, is a not-so-regular schedule of posts. I hope to be around, but it won't be as often. There also won't be any obsessed. or Nerd News posts. (I know, boo on me. But if you do run across anything NN-worthy, please send it my way?)

I hope you and yours have an absolutely wonderful Christmas (or whichever holiday you celebrate), filled with family, friends, food and fun!

Nerd News: Expendables 2 (!!!), Men in Black III, Star Wars holiday art and more

Vol. 2, Issue 48

Quite the festive post I've got for you today!

In movie news:

A few clips/previews:

Expendables 2

I am flailing, you guys. I know absolutely nothing about the plot, but the cast. I die.

Men in Black III

(via)

I'm really excited for this and the return to music it implies for Will Smith.

G.I. Joe: Retalliation

Of course they save the Bruce Willis for the end. He makes everything better. (Although, so does The Rock. So this could actually be pretty good.)

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Nerdy gingerbread has been all the rage this year.

According to "The Hanukkah Song," Harrison Ford is a quarter Jewish. So this works. (Thanks, Wes!)

That's A LOT of paper!

Speaking of paper, these are cute. Excuse me while I grab my scissors.

I'd like to watch this movie.

In TV news:
A couple of previews:

I can't fault this logic.

These lovely ladies go nicely with the other hardcore Disney characters I posted a while back.

Miss Piggy can do anything, can't she?

SCIENCE!
This is a really moving video, no joke.

In game news: There's going to be a Doctor Who Playstation game!

Mondo Tees (purveyor of some really gorgeous limited-edition posters) is running a series based on the tales behind Once Upon a Time. The first two posters: Rapunzel and Red Riding Hood.

(via)

I strongly dislike snow. But I do enjoy a well-thought-out snowman. (Thanks, Shaun!)

(via)

I like all of these women for different reasons. But you go, Janeway. (Thanks, Rachel!)

And finally, a different take on a classic story. (NSFW for language.)

Renter's Delight: Christmas at The Murtis

I know you're possibly wondering when the "soon" is that I'll be sharing pictures of the new place. (I've been wondering about it, too.) We're still working on a couple of the rooms, and I hope to spend time on them over the Christmas holiday. So expect a house tour ... sometime after the start of the new year.

To tide you over, here are a few shots of the Christmas decor we've put up (in which you'll see little glimpses of the everyday decor).

(Thanks for this one goes to our friends Emily and Wes!)

obsessed.: The Nutcracker

Last Friday, my mom treated me to a performance of The Nutcracker by the Austin Ballet.

I've long been a fan of this ballet—I even saw it once in Lincoln Center as performed by the New York City Ballet—and this was a lovely performance. The Nutcracker is one of those things that's just so quintessentially Christmas that I always feel so much more festive and in the spirit once I've seen it (regardless if it's live or on TV).
