obsessed.: Harry Potter

I doubt if anyone's really surprised at the topic of today's post—in fact, I'm surprised I've never used it as an obsessed. topic before. But if any week is perfect for a post about Harry Potter love, this week is it. I first started reading the books back in 1998 when Sorcerer's Stone was released. I was 14, so I wasn't really in the age group the books are "for," but my mom taught 5th grade and brought me on board. We both had a great time reading it. Since then, I've anxiously awaited the release of each one. When Deathly Hallows was released in 2007, I spent the entire day on my couch, reading from beginning to end.

There's so much to say about why I love these stories (both the books and the movies). The characters. The adventures. The nerd love. The connections I've made because of them. I could go on. But I think most of you know how I feel, or can at least imagine how it feels to have grown up with a set of characters. I spent much of my teenage years with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville and the rest of the gang ... and now, more than a decade later, I'm here to see the end as an adult. I'm getting a little teary eyed just writing this.

People all across the world are celebrating the release of Deathly Hallows: Part 2, in a myriad of ways. My friends and I have been re-watching all of the movies—tonight we're finishing up with Half-Blood Prince and DH: Part 1—and we'll be attending midnight viewings on Thursday night.

Gallery Nucleus, which held that awesome Edward Scissorhands anniversary show a while back, is having a Harry Potter Tribute Exhibition to commemorate. I thought I'd post some of the works here because they're pretty, and it's fun to see what the series has inspired in other people.

Rachel sent me a few of pieces of art she found on We Heart It, and I wanted to include them here too:

Are you celebrating this week?

  1. So much amazing artwork because there are so many amazing fans! I'm totally celebrating this week - midnight premiere, costumes, party, everything! I'm so excited but so sad that there won't be more midnight events to go to where I can get dressed up with my friends and pretend I'm a wizard for a night.

  2. Oh jeez. The piece featuring Lily and baby Harry just literally made me tear up. I am going to be a disaster after this movie. :(

  3. i am making my parents drive in from dallas thursday afternoon so that ricky and i can take naps and then go to the midnight showing while they watch the boys. i am at the same time giddy like a school girl and cry into my butterbeer nostalgic. elijah and i watched sorcerer's stone together for the first time tonight.. is 3 too early to start him in on the hp love?

  4. I have a Harry Potter post slated for Friday :) :)

I am so so so so flipping excited about the movie but also incredibly sad. I feel like I'm losing all of my friends or something :(

I love each & every piece of art you featured on this post. SO AMAZING !!! I love seeing how something I love & cherish so much can influence & inspire people creatively. It's so fantastic!

I recently rewatched all of the movies too & then spent the majority of my weekend watching them all AGAIN. I swear, I could watch HP movies all day everyday.

  5. oh geez! I love those prints!!! I don't know how you find all of those awesome things...
I'm seeing the midnight showing on Thursday, too. I'm super excited and sad :(

  6. Good plans, all! And I'm glad you liked the art. I wish I could go see it all in person! <3

  7. <3 LOVE FOREVER <3

  8. Thank you for sending me the art! :D

  9. "I hate Harry Potter!" I used to say that. Never read the books and wasn't really impressed by the first movie. The second one was a little better. My than girlfriend dragged me to Prisoner of Azkaban. After that i was hooked. John Williams' music score is still played on a daily basis. The movies got better and better and before you know it, i was saying "I love Harry Potter!". I will be re-watching all of them before i go see the last one. It's been a long and special journey. One I've been proud to be a part of.

  10. I'm glad you found your way to the fandom, Tim!

  11. LOVE all the art. Good finds. :)
