Haiku Revieu: Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (***1/2)

Lots of explosions
Optimus Prime is a BAMF
Pot-bellied Wrecker

I didn't think all that highly of the second installment in Michael Bay's Transformers franchise, other than that it was decently entertaining. I, like others I'm sure, don't go into Bay-produced movies expecting to have to think all that much. You have your explosions, your hot women, your witty quips, your good guys and your bad guys, and it all eventually works out it in the end.

I was quite pleased with the third film, however. (Quasi-spoilers below.) It was more entertaining than the second, by a large margin, and none of the characters were uncomfortable stereotypes. (I did hear a little girl in the theater next to me exclaim about how much she loved Skids and Mudflap, however. So perhaps it really was "for the kids"?) The new love interest, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, actually seemed to have more brains (but no less ... brawn ...) and even, dare I say it, some gumption. I will ever associate Shia LeBeouf with Even Stevens, and if you've seen the show and the film, there's a part in which he looks so reminiscent of Louis Stevens, I'm still laughing. And Alan Tudyk was amazing, as always.

My favorite part of the film, however, is that it has introduced me to my new favorite Transformer: Leadfoot.

That's right. An Autobot with a pot-belly. And he speaks in a Cockney accent. Utter brilliance.

  1. I've seen the movie last week. And I was awed with the effects! I don't really think the soundtrack is all that great, though!

  2. Hm. I wasn't really a fan of the first movie and have not watched the second. But the thought of a Cockney transformer might make me watch this one!

P.S.: I received a blog award, woot, woot! I thought you should have one too! You don't have to accept it, I just wanted you to know you're GREAT!

  3. Arvee-Yeah ... the music doesn't seem to go with the movie as well as it could.

Annika-He's got a small part, but he's great. And thank you! You're so sweet. <3
