Haiku Revieu: Green Lantern

Green Lantern (***)

Pretty Hal Jordan
Lots of aliens in space
One too many bads

There's lots of talk on the Internet about how terrible Green Lantern is. Or, similarly, how it could have been so much better. Personally, I liked it. Was it a great movie? No. Was it the best it could have been? No. But I didn't come out of it wanting to tear my hair out, and watching it was a pretty enjoyable experience. (Even if some of the CG was terrible.)

It got me thinking a lot about how different Marvel and DC movies are. I mentioned it on Twitter, to a friend of mine who knows much more about comic books than I do, and he said that's due to the way the universes are set up. Many Marvel characters are much more connected to each other than the DC ones, even with the whole Justice League group setup. But the idea of Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan hanging out with Christian Bale's Batman makes me laugh, pretty heartily.

On a side note, thank you for your responses to my poll. It gave me stuff to ponder, and I appreciate all the kind words, so much. Turns out, Haiku Revieu is one of the least favorite of my features, but I only got one concrete answer as to why it's a least favorite. If you have thoughts on the matter, I'd love to know what I could do to change it for the better. (And since I haven't come up with anything to replace it, you're stuck with it for right now. *wink*)

  1. I like Haiku review! I haven't seen this movie yet, but I still will, despite less than great reviews. I'm with you on this. There is a difference between thinking a movie is OK, and hating it. Plus, I like Ryan Reynolds.

  2. Thanks, Jen! And yes, Ryan Reynolds is great. Even Colt thinks so. ;)
