Happy birthday, Mister! (A tribute)

Warning: Sappiness ahead!

Today is my husband's 27th birthday. Today is also our four-year (second-time around) dating anniversary, and the five month anniversary of our marriage. Today is a most excellent of days.

Colt and I officially met in high school chemistry class when I was a junior and he was a sophomore. In a town and school as tiny as ours, it was hard not to know everyone, but we'd never really hung out in the same circle. We got to be friends pretty quickly, but it wasn't until October 23, 2000, that we became an "official" couple.

This is actually the summer after Colt graduated high school, but it's close enough.

We dated throughout my senior year, but when I moved across the country to go to college, it was hard to keep a relationship going. We kept in touch over the years, one of us often wanting to start something back up, but neither of us ever being in the right place/time/frame of mind to make it happen. After I graduated school and moved to Austin, we started talking again. Colt was finishing up school, neither of us was in a serious relationship ... there had never been a better time to try again. After six months of long-distance, he made the leap and moved in with me. And we've never looked back. On October 23, 2010—ten years to the day we first started dating—we got married.

I love Colt for a whole ridiculous lot of reasons, but there are a few in particular I wanted to share today.

He was super adorable in high school.

But is even more handsome now.

He can grow a fine beard.

And knows exactly what to do to make me laugh.

He looks excellent in hats.

And is good with children.

Most of the time.

He can't keep a straight face in photos.

He's just as nerdy as me.

(Playing WoW in the Denver airport ... just because it was there.)

And he goes along with my silly ideas.

But most of all I love him because he loves me. We have an amazing life and I know that it will be wonderful until the day we die because we have each other.

I love you Mister! Happy birthday!

(I borrowed a few FB photos from Samar, Cheyloe and Stephanie to use in this post. Thanks ladies!)

  7. I agree with the birthday boy, the fact that he is able to live happily ever after with someone who loves him unconditionally is an excellent gift.

I've known him his entire life, I know exactly how extraordinary he is, and I will never be able to express how much it means to me that you are in his life.

    Happy Birthday, Bub!! <3
