obsessed.: Misfits

If you ever look at my Tumblr, you might know already what I'm obsessed. with this week. I've been posting/reposting/liking gifs and pictures like they're going out of style.

But really, how could I not like a British show about a bunch of screwups who get superpowers from a freak lightning storm?

(The main characters: Curtis, Alicia, Nathan, Kelly and Simon.)

Since I don't live in the UK, I had no idea about Misfits until recently. The DVDs aren't available in region 1 format yet either, so I had to ... find ... them online. If you know what I mean.

There's only 13 episodes total—two series and a Christmas special. The third series doesn't start until November, which makes me a very sad panda.

The show can be a bit racy, and there were quite a few times I had to Google terms because I had no idea what the characters were talking about—particularly when Kelly's talking; her accent is SUPER thick—but overall I'd give it a whole lot of stars. It's just so fun. Nathan and Simon are my favorite characters; Nathan's beyond crass, but he's both hilarious and sweet, and Simon's adorable in a creepster sort of way.

All of the characters go through a pretty noticeable progression in only 13 episodes, which is saying something, both about the writing and the actors. I'd say more about plot ... but I don't want to ruin anything. Wiki it if you're interested in more details, but beware spoilers.

Here's a teaser trailer from before the first series aired:

And the theme song, which is surprisingly catchy:

"Echoes"—The Rapture

And finally, a couple of my favorite scenes. (Which are both from the last episode of series one, but I couldn't find many others online.)

I was eating dinner with a friend last night and telling her about Misfits. A waiter came up and started talking about how much he loved the show, too, and then a lady in a nearby booth asked me about the show because it "seemed right up her alley."

I love spreading the love.

P.S.-Welcome to anyone who's come over from Sandy A La Mode! One follower away from 50 ... I guess I should get on planning that giveaway!

  6. You are obviously much more clued-in than I, Megan. I've been into the scifi-dramas—Primeval, Being Human, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Survivors—on BBC America for a while now, but Misfits really has opened my eyes to a whole other side of British telly. (other than Monty Python and that sort, of course.) I'm totally going to have to check out those others that you mentioned. :D
