Holidays in review

Happy new year, friends! I'm only four days late on getting this post up, but I felt like I needed an extra week in 2010 to get everything done, so I'm actually early?

I hope everyone had a great holiday. I was off work for a couple of weeks—a bonus of working in the education field—and was busy pretty much the entire time. I finished up Christmas presents, enjoyed a lovely Christmas weekend with Colt and the family we have here in Texas and got spoiled with many lovely gifts. Last week I found myself working on household projects, helping a friend out with some wedding planning, relaxing some, and finally getting to the Social Security office to apply for a new card. Colt and I spent New Year's Eve with my cousin, his wife, and my aunt and uncle. It's been a tradition for the last few years—we play board games and Wii and always turn back to cable just in time for the final countdown. Colt and I aren't really partiers, so it's nice to have a relaxed place to go to ring in the new year. Also, Colt thinks NYE is pretty much the most anticlimactic holiday of the year (and texts everyone that along with his well-wishes, haha), so it's good to keep things low-key. A little Sofia Coppola Sparkling Wine (epically girly!), good company and a kiss from my true love at midnight, and I'm set.

Of course, I didn't get everything done that I would have liked to get done, but such is the case for me, pretty much always. My to-do list is bigger on the inside, for sure.

One thing I did finish up (last night, to be exact) is the 2011 Man Calendar. What started out as a joke, or a way to showcase my celebrity crushes, has turned into tradition. During the holiday break (or thereabouts) each year, I design a calendar featuring 12 of most favorite famous men. (Colt, of course, is my favorite man in general.) I then print the calendar on cardstock and hang it in my office. It's all in good fun. And nice to look at, too.

The Man Calendar in its natural habitat

Each year has a loose theme. This years is "menswear." The gents in this year's calendar are all wearing typical menswear pieces—jackets, ties, vests, etc. Mr. June and Mr. August are less fitting of the theme, but it's summer, so you'll forgive them, right?

Here's Mr. January, Ben Barnes:

And just in case you were curious, the rest of the months are as follows:

(The links will take you to the calendar page, rather than the IMDB page like above.)

Mr. February: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Mr. March: Sam Worthington
Mr. April: James McAvoy
Mr. May: Cory Monteith
Mr. June: Johnny Depp
Mr. July: Matthew Lewis
Mr. August: Alex O'Loughlin
Mr. September: Garrett Hedlund
Mr. October: Andrew-Lee Potts
Mr. November: Matt Smith
Mr. December: Jake Gyllenhaal

If anyone wants their own set to print out, let me know. I can post a Zip file tonight; The calendar is made to be cut to 6"x9". It's a pretty personal and silly project, however, so no hard feelings if no one cares, haha!

(ETA: Here's a .zip file of all 12 months.)

January's looking to be another busy month, with work, birthdays and a lovely wedding on tap. Someday soon I'd love to have a weekend with nothing to do, but February's not that far away, right?

Thanks for sticking with me through the break. While 2010 was spectacular, I'm looking forward to things only getting better in 2011!

P.S.—The borders around the photos in previous posts have all of a sudden gotten a whole lot larger. I just today thought about making the border an addition to the template, rather than adding them all in myself. It's going to save a lot of time in the long run, and eventually I might go back and fix the previous posts, but that's a job for a later date.

  1. This would seem to require sharing. I know lots of girls who would like pictures of pretty men.

  2. haha that's awesome! At first I thought that that guy on your calender was Ryan Buell from Paranormal State, but I guess I was wrong. haha. I hope that your new year is awesome!

  3. I love your natural habitat!

  4. DT-Thanks again for the promotion on Twitter. :)

Danielle-Thanks! And I hope your 2011 is fab too.

H-:D I try to make my work space as much "me" as is possible. I can get away with a lot, since I work in the "creative" department. ;)
