Headed to the chapel ...

(Disclaimer: Not our hands.)

Or in our case, the gallery/venue space ... thing.

One week from tomorrow, I'll be Mrs. Colt Curtis. I am beyond excited. It's been a long time coming. We're getting married 10 years to the day that we first dated in high school, on 10-23-10. We're nerds.

Since we're getting married out of state, I won't be around a computer much for the next couple of weeks. Look for me to return as a changed woman (har!) on Monday, Nov. 1.

Cheers!

P.S.—I love today's Note from the Universe:

They bring me to tears every single day, Mandy.
They're almost too much to bear.
Sometimes, I even wonder how it's possible...
Of course, I'm talking about your supernatural resilience, your steely courage, and your gritty determination.
YOU WILL MOVE MOUNTAINS, and they shall say THANK YOU, DUDE.
Thy kingdom come,

—The Universe

Nerd News: Jedi bathrobes, Tom Hardy, a steampunk web series and more

Vol. 1, Issue 17

I have been swamped this week, with work and wedding plans. I can't quite believe I'm going to be a Mrs. in nine days, but I'm so (SO) excited, too.

Love this: JK Rowling's plot spreadsheet. I don't think I've quite come to terms with the fact that there won't be any more HP books.

While we're on the subject, there will be a Green Lantern trailer running with HP7. Bonus!

In other movie news:

Colt and I should have bought his and hers versions for our minimoon:

This is interesting stuff, for fans: Ten things you didn't know about The Empire Strikes Back.

I heart Michael J. Fox.

Interested in following some behind-the-scenes, making-of action of HBO's Game of Thrones? They have a blog.

Riese is a webseries that aired online a while back, and then disappeared. I guess that was because it's been picked up by SyFy. Check out couple of (old) trailers:

The science fiction movie/tv world is so incestuous, but I just love seeing those familiar faces.

obsessed: "Don't Go Breaking My Heart"

On this week's Glee, Rachel and Finn are going to do a duet of Elton John's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Listening to it this morning, I was reminded of another version of this song, from one of my most favorite movies, Ella Enchanted.

I know. It's totally silly. But it's one of those movies I just can't help but be be obsessed. with. I never said I had very discriminating taste.

He's mad as a box of frogs!

A friend of mine e-mailed me the other day with a query about the title of this blog. If you've never spent time here, or don't know me, you might think this blog would be about, well, chocolate and cake. Sadly, while I truly enjoy both items, I don't partake in them enough to fully devote a blog to them.

The title actually comes from a line in one of my most favorite TV miniseries of all time: Syfy's Alice.

Alice is a Syfy "re-imagining" of Alice in Wonderland. And it is awesome. The "Mad Hatter" character, in this case just Hatter, is played by Andrew Lee Potts, of Primeval fame.

Here's a clip of the line. (Ed. Note: "Milkshake" doesn't play in the actual movie, but I had to clip this from this YouTube video. I'll try to cobble together a better clip from my own copy soon.)

The line, just in case you couldn't hear it well, is:

"Trust me, I know a thing or two about liking people. And in time, after much chocolate and cream cake, 'like' turns into 'what was his name again.'"

When I first started this blog, I was pretty dang obsessed with Alice. And instead of reinventing my previous blog, I felt like I needed a complete change. But I was nervous about moving, and possibly losing what little fan base I had in the process. I was also nervous about changing the name so completely. (My previous blog's title was just my name.) During my waffling over moving, changing, etc., Hatter's line struck a chord. While it's bittersweet—he's talking about moving on from failed relationships—there's also a sense of hope to it. The latter is what helped me realize how great it would be to make a new start, with the help of Chocolate and Cream Cake. On a secondary level, of course, the name, being from a nerdy/romantic/silly/action show, says a lot about who I am and what I post about here.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go talk Colt into watching all 8 hours of this again.

Happy weekend!

Nerd News: Dopplegangers, The Tempest, Wookie coats and more

Vol. 1, Issue 16

I've had way too much caffeine today. Just warning you ahead of time.

WISHLISTED:

And also, these shoes. Some of the Star Wars/ADIDAS Originals make no sense, but a few are total lust items.

In TV news:
This list of 22 TV dopplegangers is a hoot. (BOOOOO Bolivia!)

Get your very own Tron Legacy light bike suit here!

Moving on to movies, this Tempest trailer looks wicked. I'm a little nonplussed by Russell Brand being in it, but I have a huge lady crush on Helen Mirren. And I love Shakespeare adaptations.

Some interesting articles:

Some more great (real) HP7 posters:

And finally, I leave you with the brand-spanking new The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader international trailer.

Have a great evening!

obsessed.: Notes from the Universe

A while ago, I read one of Kaelah's blog posts in which she mentioned Notes from the Universe. I thought: "Now that's cute. Getting good thoughts from The Universe." I wasn't sure who was doing the actual sending, so I did a little digging.

The author of the notes is not, in fact, The Universe, but Mike Dooley, author of The Secret. Now, I've never read the book, and this isn't supposed to be some sort of preachy or self-help post. I just really enjoy getting the notes in my inbox each day. Sometimes they're totally not applicable to my life, but every so often, they hit home. I see them as electronic fortune cookies. (I'm sure you can get actual electronic fortune cookies e-mailed to you too, haha.)

My recent favorite notes:

Mandy, you know the way, you're strong enough, and you will prevail.
Otherwise, what would be the whole point?

—The Universe
Actually, Mandy, "prevail" is a gross understatement, but it sounded more couth than "rock the friggin' world."
Mandy, I can't even remember the last time I was this excited for you over all that you're on the verge of doing, being, and having.
Just sayin'.

—The Universe
Are they the same for everyone? Sure. Do the e-mails come with some advertising for Dooley's other projects? Yes. But I think it's important that everyone get a little obsessed. from time-to-time with a little positive affirmation.

Dream has become their reality! Who are you to say otherwise?

Today is October the First. I am getting married in 23 days. It's crazy! And awesome! And there's still so much to be done!

A little Friday funny for feveryone: (It takes a minute to get to the action, but it's totally worth hanging in for. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw it the first time.Or the second.)

Have a great weekend! Look for a post on why this blog is named the way it is next week, along with our regularly scheduled programming.
