Premiere Week: Monday

Three of my household's favorite shows are premiering tonight.

How I Met Your Mother, 8 p.m. (CBS)
HIMYM is a show based upon one man's search for Mrs. Right and the adventures he has with his friends along the way. It's also the home of Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), one of the greatest "sleezebag with a heart" characters ever created. I didn't watch this show from the beginning, but Colt got me into it. It's not gold each episode, but there is a lot of funny.

Chuck, 8 p.m. (NBC)
Chuck is a show about a nerdy guy who gets a governmental database downloaded into his brain, which causes him to become a somewhat inept spy. Even after having said program in his brain for years, getting an upgrade which allows him to perform crazy Matrix-like acts of martial arts without really knowing how, and being trained as an actual spy, he's still a goof. I love the ensemble cast of this show, and the silly humor. As a hopeless romantic, I was so happy last season when Chuck and Sarah finally got together; I hope the head honchos of this show realize that two main characters can be together and have it work out well.

Castle, 10 p.m. (ABC)
Castle's a show about a ladies' man writer who goes "on research" into a police department and gets paired up with a gorgeous, no-nonsense female cop. Of course, hi-jinks ensue. Nathan Fillion often plays similar roles, but I think that's because he's so darn good at playing them. He and Stana Katic have great chemistry in their lead roles, and the supporting cast really adds to the show. The crimes are often on the tame side—this being a semi-comedy (dramedy?) after all—but they're not always too quick to figure out.

Two new shows also start tonight. They might have promise.

The Event, 9 p.m. (NBC)
The Event follows Sean Walker, a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, begins to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history. (via)
I'm honestly mostly just curious about what "The Event" is, more than the whole of this show. Which, obviously, is what the marketers set out to do with the ambiguous title and promo material.

Hawaii Five-0, 10 p.m. (CBS)
Hawaii Five-0 is a re-imagining of the original 1968–80 television series which will follow an elite unit/task force set up to fight crime in the state of Hawaii. (via)
I like Alex O'Laughlin, who plays the lead in this show. I never watched the original, but I'm down with crime procedurals. We'll see.

(See EW's Fall Cheat Sheet to find out what else is premiering when.)

  1. Who says "hi-jinks"?

How you going to watch them all tonight? Even with a DVR, that's a tall order!

  2. Haha. I'm sure we won't watch them all tonight. We'll spread them out over the week/weekend. :)

  3. I say 'Hi-jinks' all the time, but only when followed by the word 'ensues'.

This remarkably close to what I'm watching.. minus Chuck since I missed window on that one.

  4. Thanks, DT. :) Chuck is great. We only ended up watching that and HIMYM, but we'll catch up.
