obsessed.: Veronica Mars

I just can't get enough of this sassy blonde teenage detective. The drams totally have me obsessed.

Veronica Mars is an American television series created by Rob Thomas. (Ed. note: Not that Rob Thomas.) The series premiered on Sept. 22, 2004 and ended on May 22, 2007.

The series is set in the fictional town of Neptune, California, and stars Kristen Bell as the title character, a student who progresses from high school to college while moonlighting as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father. In each episode, Veronica solves a different stand-alone case while working to solve a more complex mystery. The first two seasons of the series each had a season-long mystery arc, introduced in the first episode of the season and solved in the season finale. The third season took a different format, focusing on smaller mystery arcs that would last the course of several episodes.
Right now, I'm a little more than halfway through the second season. I'm keeping myself away from looking up what happens in the rest of the series, trying instead to just enjoy it as it goes along. Veronica Mars is most assuredly someone I would have loved to hang out with during my high school years.

Oh, and I'm definitely Team Logan (when choosing who I think Veronica should be with). He can be totally douchy at times (most times?), but I get the hopeless romantic butterflies when I see them together.

A Tuesday morning pick me up

I'm sure many of you have seen this before, but it made me smile this morning and I wanted to share.

1. Go to
2. Type "Who's the cutest?" into the search box.
3. Hit the I'm Feeling Lucky button underneath.
4. Smile. It's true!
P.S.-Searching for "smiling puppy" on Google can be detrimental to your health if you're easily affected by cuteness.

Born to Run

I didn't watch the Emmys last night, but something tells me that this was probably one of the best parts.

I gave her my heart, she gave me ... a pen.

I'm keeping it simple on this sunny Friday, and sharing something that's amused me all week:
(Thank you to Diana of, via)

I hope they never make an updated version of Say Anything—because it is a classic and they'd probably stick Zac Efron in it, and as cute as he is, he's no John Cusack—but really, this is just silly enough to be awesome.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Nerd News: Childhood games, Doctor Who, Star Wars art and more

 Vol. 1. Issue 12

I think I've posted at least one of these amazing Star Wars Steampunk illustrations on my other blog in the past, but when I ran across them this week, I knew I had to post them again.
I think the Ackbar one's my favorite. He's just so cute with those big ol' eyes. The stories—and altered names—that go along with each image are great, too.

While we're on the subject of Star Wars art:
Love these.

And one more Star Wars item for the fans: 11 best commercials featuring Darth Vader. The Tom Tom GPS one is by far my favorite. "Round-abound" slays me, every time.

In movie news:
This mash-up trailer of Scott Pilgrim and Avatar: The Last Airbender is—to paraphrase Colt's words—OMG epic.

Interested in some Doctor Who news?
While we're talking Doctor, I ran across Brandon Schaefer's art and found this:
All his other work is fantastic too. I love the mod feel of it all.

I had an urge to play Oregon Trail earlier this week, and when I Googled it, imagine my excitement when I found Virtual Apple—an online warehouse of Apple and Apple II games you can play online. The excitement quelled a little before my first party member got dysentery (I guess I'm used to more advanced games these days), but still. The memories!

Finally, if you need some afternoon amusement, check out this listing of 24 gag reels from classic scifi TV shows. The Stargate ones made me giggle and hearing Deanna Troi say the f-word made me nearly fall out of my chair.

Haiku Revieu: The Expendables

The Expendables (****)
A lot of muscles
A gun that blows up faces
Old dudes still kick ass

I'm not even joking. The amount of mayhem and gore caused when a group of this many action stars gets together is verging on the ridiculous. And yet, I still enjoyed myself immensely.

Temptation, I has it

It's just sitting there.

Staring me in the face.

Daring me to crack its spine and devour it.

Why, oh, why am I not an 09er* with all the time in the world to do what I want?

*Kudos to anyone who gets the reference without looking at the link.

P.S.-How do you like the updated Chocolate & Cream Cake, hmm?

obsessed.: Pinterest

I'm not quite sure where I ran across Pinterest—Twitter I think—but for the past week or so it's all I can do to not visit the site every five minutes.

What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a social catalog service. Think of it as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can post collections of things you love, and "follow" collections created by people with great taste.
Part wishlist, part idea warehouse, Pinterest has me obsessed. I love looking at all the gorgeous things people find on their Internet travels, and I get a little giddy when someone "re-pins" something I've added into the mix.

Right now, Pinterest is in Beta, so it's only available to those who are invited/those who sign up on the site to receive an invitation. I've still got three or so invites, so let me know if you're interested?

Nerd News: Historical Stauses, Love and Other Drugs, Words and more

Vol. 1, Issue 11

Today, I adopted a word. What have you done for the English language lately?

In movie news:
I haven't seen Jake Gyllenhaal in a "pinch-his-cheeks-adorable" role for a while now. This movie looks cute, and Anne's hair/wig? Gorgeous.

This mash-up is amusing. It just goes to show how much music effects mood.

And while we're on the subject, a spoilery review of Inception, complete with some pretty interesting thoughts on the end of the film. (Thanks, Wes!)

Supposedly, True Blood season 4 will feature witches. A girl can hope—does this mean the storyline with Eric losing his memory will come into play? *fingerscrossed*

Wow. Ultraviolet light reveals how Greek statues used to look.

These posters are great:

Had I the money to buy all the awesome nerd art that comes down the pipes, I would have enough to fill at least five houses.

According to SETI, we will find evidence of alien life within 25 years.

More Historical Facebook Statuses.

Have you ever wondered, "What Would Emma Pilsbury Wear?" or wanted a TARDIS-inspired frock? I'll admit, I think a TARDIS swing coat would be spectacular over a little cardigan and pencil skirt combo.

The past two weeks have felt like four. I just want to sleep all weekend and recuperate, but I've got things to attend to. Hope you have a great weekend, darlings.

Lusting after ...

It's been SO HOT here in the ATX recently. All the Fall issues of magazines, the back-to-school stuff in stores, the e-mails about cool-weather clothing ... all of it makes me long for cold nights and the changing of the leaves.

I went to the University of Massachusetts, and boy did I get spoiled each year when the hot days finally gave up. Such gorgeous country, the northeast, particularly in the fall.

I am feeling so nostalgic for that country, for the feeling I always got before the first day of school.

All images via we♥it.

I'm not going to be around a computer much tomorrow, so Nerd News will most likely be posted on Friday. But never you fear, your weekly dose will be up before the week's out.

obsessed.: Buffalo Check

Red and black, white and black ... any other color and black. I know it's been a trend for a while now, but I still love it. Color me obsessed. with Buffalo Check.

It's great that something so lumberjack is so chic.

Today I'm sporting two of my buffalo check pieces, a red and black cardigan and a pair of red and black flats (sorry, no photo). I just can't get enough of this bright, bold pattern.
