All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream

I ran across D.L. & Co. in an e-mail newsletter this morning, and the picture that went with the little blurb caught my eye. So I wandered over to their website, as I am apt to do, and became quite enamored with their products, which I am also apt to do.

According to the site, the company's tagline is "Modern Alchemists and Purveyors of Curious Goods." The goods in question are quite curious. There's a very gothic sensibility running through the collections of candles, diffusers and other items, which you can plainly see when reading the names given to the scents: Absinthe, Thorn Apple, Wilde Flower. Although I have no idea if these scents are any good, the packaging and the staging on the site conjure up daydreams of steampunk*, the original fairy tales and Edgar Allen Poe (he quoth the quote I used as the title of this post). Perfect for a dark and stormy day like we're having here in ATX.

I'm so tempted to go paint a room in our apartment a dark charcoal grey and line the walls with ornate, leather-bound books and apple-shaped candles.
*I'm in the process of reading a series called The Parasol Protectorate, which is based in a semi-alternate Victorian age England. It's full of steampunk and I am loving it.

  1. oooh. Color me intrigued. :) Methinks perhaps I'll check this stuff out later.

  2. And dark stained wood shelves? One of which if you pull it back open up the secret door to the dungeon.

  3. Ang-Nothing on that site is cheap, but a girl can dream, right? :)

DT-Exactly. Lots of heavy velvets around too.

  4. Freaking love those apples. I definitely like the way that looks.

  5. I think "sumptuous" is a good way to describe their stuff.
